BAM Half Term Guide: February 2018

You made it through January and now it’s time to look forward to half term! From Valentine’s Day events to Chinese New Year, here are some of the best family arts events on offer in Bristol and beyond…

BRISTOL ENERGY HUB
Saturday Art Club

Tickets £3.50 per child
Make your own friendship doll and try writing your graffiti name with Posca Pens. Free drinks and snacks as well as space for parents to have a sit down while the kids get creative. Led by Let’s Make Art.

We LOVE the sound of these workshops where grandparents and grandchildren can get creative together. From memory box making, story telling, singing, house making and a disco in a crypt playing hits from 1950s to present day. At various libraries and venues across the city as part of the Bristol Family Arts Festival.

Chinese New Year: Dog

Spend a whole day exploring different methods and mediums (clay, plaster, fabric and more) then take your creations home with you. For ages 7-12. Booking essential.

Family Sewing Workshop

Make your own love monster in this simple hand sewing workshop. No experience necessary and you’ll go home with your own colourful critter! There’s also Valentine’s card and badge making on 13 Feb.

Head over to Withywood for everything from film screenings, costume making, story telling, family theatre and crafts. Excellent value and something for everyone.

Saturday Morning Kids Film: The Jungle Book

We all know this one has the best songs of any kids movie, so go treat yourselves to a morning cinema session! And follow it up by blowing off some steam at the Cinedisc kid’s disco afterwards.

THE DOWNS
Bird Box Bonanza

Have fun learning all the names on the bird-spotting trail and in the afternoon decorate your own bird box to take home in time for National Nest Box Week.

Fun and informal sessions open to all. A lovely chance to get drawing as a family.

RWA
Block Printing Workshop

Design and print your own canvas bag in the style of Sandra Blow, whose work is currently on display at the RWA. Morning session for 3-5 year olds and afternoon session for ages 6+.

Holiday Masterclass

Led by Bristol illustrator Victoria Willmott, this session will explore different drawing and painting techniques, inspired by the Women With Vision exhibition. For ages 9-13.

Wooden Heart Workshop

Creative fun inspired by Shakespeare’s Heroes & Villains. Get making with designers and storytellers. Ages 5-7 on 14 Feb and ages 8-11 the next day.

Enjoy a game of Korean Lazer Ball, make your own LED accessory, go on a studio tour, take part in a digital stacking game, create a children’s book from your family photos and much more. There’s a huge variety of activities on offer and all totally free so definitely worth checking out!

A drawing den, a drawing trail, lots of family activities, live illustrators, drawing robots, family friendly exhibition tours, story telling, face painting and much more at this event to celebrate the Jerwood Drawing Prize.
